Jon Savage is the author of England's Dreaming: Sex pistols and Punk Rock, Teenage: The Creation of Youth, 1875-1945 and The England's Dreaming Tapes. Later joined by drummer Stephen Morris, Joy Division released two seminal post-punk albums: Unknown Pleasures (1979) and the posthumous Closer (1980). He met his Joy Division bandmates Bernard Sumner and Peter Hook at a Sex Pistols gig at the Lesser Free Trade Hall, Manchester, in 1976. Ian Curtis was born in Stretford, Lancashire, and grew up in Macclesfield. ![]()
